Citroen Berlingo Collects a World Honour
22/05/09
The new Citroën Berlingo has won the Best New Van and Best Light Van awards in the 2009 Van Fleet World Honours, with Citroen’s newest van convincing the judges of its winning status thanks to its unique range of operational, financial, comfort and safety benefits, which enabled it to overcome strong opposition from rival products.

Providing flexibility and versatility, the new Berlingo is available with two vehicle lengths and a highly economical diesel engine as standard. The maximum Berlingo payload is 850 kg and it has a load compartment volume of 3.7 cu.m, which rises to 4.1 cu.m with the Extenso® option.
Citroën’s innovative, modular Extenso® cabin allows the outer passenger seat to be folded away enabling lengths of pipe/conduit/timber of up to 3.25 m long to be carried. The Extenso® seat provides seating for a driver and two passengers for occasional use.
The outer passenger seat can also be configured so that its seat cushion can be raised vertically against the seat back, to enable tall items to be carried on the cab floor next to the driver. With the Extenso® cabin, the load space of new Berlingo is increased by 0.4 cu.m to give a total load volume of 4.1 cu.m.
“The original Berlingo set a benchmark for small vans,” says Lawrie Malatios, General Manager for Citroen in New Zealand. “These latest awards prove that the new Berlingo has built on the success of the original and added new and useful features and cut running costs so that like the first generation Berlingo, the new Berlingo remains the benchmark against which all small vans must be judged.”
