Clean Car Program

Citroën is proudly a low emissions vehicle manufacturer, and under the Clean Car Program, none of our cars attract a fee.

WHAT IS THE CLEAN CAR PROGRAM?

From July 2021, the New Zealand Government introduced the Clean Car Rebate on electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) to make it more affordable for Kiwis to own an electric vehicle as part of the goal towards net zero by 2050.

The Clean Car Program has been expanded from 1st April 2022 to include all vehicles. A set of smaller rebates will be added for vehciles with low CO2 emissions, and fees on high emitting vehicles will also apply. There is a band of CO2 where no rebate or penalty applies.

All Citroën models are fitted with fuel and CO2 efficient Euro 6 engines, and none of these models will attract a high CO2-emitting fee.

CITROËN’S LOW EMISSIONS LEADERSHIP

Citroën Low Emission Leadership

While the Clean Car Standard and a focus on low emissions is new to New Zealand, similar rules have been in place for many years in Europe. Citroën has invested heavily to reduce average CO2 emissions over this time, resulting in being part of Europe’s number 1 low emissions vehicle manufacturer.

Citroën has already been using this experience in New Zealand with our range of Euro 6 low emission engines. We will expand this further during 2022 and beyond with the introduction of full electric and plug-in hybrid models.

In 2021 Citroën was in the top 10 cleanest brands in New Zealand (based on average CO2 emissions per car sold). With a continued focus on EV, PHEV and low emission cars, we will continue to improve our already low average emissions.
