Electric Charging

CHARGING SOLUTION FOR YOUR ELECTRIC OR HYBRID VEHICLE

At home, in the office, during your outings near your home or on the occasion of a getaway, there are many charging solutions available to make the most of your electric or plug-in hybrid Citroën.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHARGING

THE ELECTRICAL NETWORK

It can be single phase – most home installations – or three phase. Before choosing your charging solution, you must check the type of installation you have.

CHARGING STATION

It defines the distributed power and the charging time of your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

Several solutions are available: standard charging with a domestic or reinforced socket, accelerated charging with a Wall box type charging station at home or on the public network, fast and super fast charging on the public network and motorway. Superchargers from 50kw are equipped with their own cable, they are not compatible with plug-in hybrid vehicles.

CHARGING CABLE

The speed of the charge also depends on the power that the cable can accommodate. Each charge has its own cable.

THE ON-BOARD CHARGER

Its role is to convert the alternating current supplied by sockets and charging stations (excluding superchargers) into direct current to supply the battery. Its power also conditions recharging times.

More powerful on-board chargers may therefore be available as an option, depending on the vehicle, to take advantage of optimised charging times.
BATTERY
The traction battery has a warranty for 8 years or 160,000 km for at least 70% of its charge capacity. Our electric vehicle batteries are compatible with fast or super fast charging available on the public network.

UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

The kilowatt (kW) and kilowatt-hour (kWh) are two units of measurement with similar names. However, they express different concepts.

The kilowatt to know the power of the motor

The kilowatt (kW) allows you to know the power of the motor of your electric vehicle. It is multiplied by about 1.36 to get its horsepower.

For example, the Citroën ë-C4 Electric engine is 100 kW or 136 horsepower.

The kilowatthour to measure battery energy

The electric motor of a vehicle is supplied with energy by a battery whose capacity is expressed in kilowatt hours (kWh), ie the quantity of kW that the battery can provide per hour.

For example, the Citroën ë-C4 Electric battery contains 50 kWh of energy. This is equivalent to 50 liters of gasoline.

The kilowatt to estimate charging time

The power of the charging stations varies from 3.7 kW to 22 kW for domestic stations and goes up to 100 kW, or even more, for public stations. The higher the measurement, the greater the power delivered. The higher the number of kW, the shorter the charging time.

For example, a 7.4 kW wall box can store 7.4 kW of energy. It therefore takes less than 7 hours to recharge the 50 kWh battery of the Citroën ë-C4 Electric.

CHARGING CABLES

Several types of cables are available to optimise the charging of your vehicle. These cables are available as standard or as an accessory.

Standard mode 2 cable

This cable can provide you with up to 1.8 kW of power.

It is used to recharge on a domestic outlet.

Mode 3 cable single phase

This cable can provide you with up to 7.4 kW of power.

It is used with a wall box installed at home or at a public charging station. Charging at home on a wall box allows you to recover full driving range in 2 hours for a plug-in hybrid vehicleon board charger is 3.7 kW and in less than 1 night for an electric vehicle.

PRIVATE CHARGING AT HOME OR AT WORK

Charging your ev or phev: it's easy

You can easily charge your electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle daily using a standard household socket, using the household socket cable supplied as standard.

If you want faster charging, opt for a wall box. The wall box reduces your charging time as much as possible.

With a 7.4 kw wall box

You recover 100% in around 2 hours, i.e. 57 km of electric driving range in a plug-in hybrid, or around 7.4 hours in an electric vehicle.

With a classic domestic socket

You recover 100% in about 7.3 hours, i.e. 57 km of electric driving range in a plug-in hybrid, or about 30.6 hours in an electric vehicle.

Charging your electric vehicle: simple and practical solutions

Different charging methods are possible depending on the kilometers you travel daily and the charging solutions you also have outside your home.

  • Wall box 7.4kW: Installing a wall box charging station is the ideal solution if you want to take advantage of optimised charging times. Your Citroën dealer can assist in arranging installation with one of our partners.
  • Standard socket: A simple connection to a wall socket. It is not the preferred solution for full electric vehicles because the charging times are long, up to 30% charge in 1 night. It can be used as an occasional charging solution.

For Citroën ë-C4 Electric, you have several charging options:

  • 100kW public charging: 80% charge in 30 minutes
  • Wallbox 7.4kW: 7.5 hours

For Citroën C5 Aircross plug-in hybrid, you have several charging options:

  • Wallbox 7.4kW: 2 hours
  • Standard socket: 7 hours
